OUR MISSION

In John 9:1-3, Jesus healed the blind man and told the people that this man was born blind so that God’s mighty works could be shone to all. This scripture is the foundation for our ministry entitled “SHINE". At SHINE, our mission is to welcome your entire family into a loving, encouraging and bible-based fellowship of believers. We seek to make special needs families feel welcome here at FBCA by providing a safe environment for their family members to share the good news of Jesus Christ with each of them in a way that reaches their hearts and minds. There’s a place for every member of God’s family and we are committed to helping yours find a comfortable place to belong.

SHINE serves all age groups from Pre-K to Adults. We offer Sunday morning Buddy Program for Children and Youth, as well as a weekly Connect Group for older teens and adults. Sign language services are available as needed, and our facility is wheelchair accessible.

new to shine?

Our SHINE Special Needs Ministry welcomes children and adults with special needs into our church fellowship and community.

Our Mission is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with every person, regardless of their abilities.  Every Shine participant is a unique creation who is “fearfully and wonderfully made”, and we strive to meet each one with the message of Christ in a way that addresses their individual learning style.

Bring your special needs family member on Sunday mornings! Our goal is to integrate the Children and Youth into their peer group classrooms by providing them with a trained Buddy volunteer who will accompany them throughout the morning. This Inclusion Based Model gives our participants an opportunity to integrate with their peers and enjoy learning about Jesus and worshiping in an environment that fits their unique needs. For our older Teens and Adults, we meet weekly in B209 during the 11:00 AM service. This class enjoys bible time, worship, crafts, and fellowship and is suitable for those desiring a smaller class size and more individualized attention.

NEED A RESPITE?

Shine offers a variety of special events throughout the year including Vacation Bible School (VBS) and Respites.

Respites are designed to give parents and caregivers a much-needed break while offering our participants a fun opportunity to interact with peers and loving volunteers. These respites are open to the community and to all ages from children to adult.

VBS is offered each summer, and registration begins online in April for our VBS during the month of June. Special needs children aged Pre-K thru completed 5th grade are encouraged, and welcome, to participate.
